Populate and Perish

Since the discovery and mass utilisation of fossil fuels, the human population went through the roof, and continues to today ( as seen on the below graph), however- since the 1970s, oil discoveries have peaked and since been progressivley declining, and as demand continues to rise for the life-sustaining fossil fuel due to continued unsustainable population growth, we begin to panic... (I'll leave the global warming mumbo jumbo out of this too).
Fact is: theres only so much room on this planet. Somethings got to give, and after all- humans are just like any other species, with the only difference being that we are the only species which are able to put ourselves into extinction by over populating and consuming all the recources available to us on this tiny little place we call home- Earth.

The way in which society is economically structured- capitalisim, means that population growth = economic growth and without economic growth we loose housing and more importatantly (but in extreme cases), food. The planet has already surpassed the maximum population it can sustain. If the entire population of Africa were fed, clothed and housed to a basic standard, there would not be enough oil or suitable land for agriculture to feed the rest of the human population. Forget solar powered cars, electricity produced by wind farms etc- these things do not provide food. They provide us with something that we as a species were designed to survive without. It sounds far fetched but its true- the real solution is to have a serious look at the economic models that we as a society rely on, and reduce our population through the most humane means possible.
Perhaps a world scale of the 1 child policy, or watch as the population continues to soar, and quality of life and ultimatley life itself, declines.

Just a thought anyway.
