God save the Queen

I'm not a monarchist, im more neutral on that issue. No, this is about homosexual life, opinions and general bitching within our prized gay community.

It's been going on a while, ive noticed it from friends on the scene, through Manhunt and Gaydar profiles and through this very site. The common homosexual mentality of "straight acting" vs. "queens".

A friend of mine today emailed me at work saying "Theres no reason for them to act like that... I'm just myself, I'm straight acting, I dont conform to stereotypes. Those who act all gay and feminine deserve whatever they get". I thanked him for that email, it got my mind thinking, and I came up with this blog.

Firstly, I'd like to point out that I have a huge amount of admiration and respect for drag queens and transsexuals, vastly more respect than someone who claims to be "straight acting". I believe it takes guts and admiration to truly be who you are, why else would you make yourself vulnerable to abuse, to be different and the subject of ridicule by even some in your own community for no real reason? I also believe it is those who claim to be "straight acting"...or "straight pretending" are the group conforming to the heterosexual stereotype- thus it is those who, in many cases, do not have the guts to be who they really are.

For the record: No I'm not a person one would class as "feminine", nor am I a drag queen or transsexual- I'm me. I simply do have alot of respect for those who are themselves, regardless of how society will view them- it takes talent, guts, countless hours of time and vast amounts of effort to do what they do. As for the "queens"- anyone who can wear 6 inch heels and still dance better then anyone else deserves applause and respect!

Go Priscilla!

Happy pride!!
